In the 1700's a Mill stood in surrounding fields in the Dingle Area. By the 1803 the construction was under way to build a road.
The Mill stood for some year's right in the middle of the road (Junction of Hill Street & Mill Street).
Thats were the name Mill Street orginated from.
Another land mark on Mill Street is that of the Florence Institute for Boys, the Florrie as it is locally known was built in 1889. Bernard Hall (former Mayor of Liverpool) built it as a tribute to his daughter Florence who died age 22.
Now 114 years on there is a group of local people called Friends of the Florrie fighting to get this magnificent building restored to its former glory.
